Molecular Weight: 96.06

EINECS: 639-249-0

Chemical properties

Crystalline sodium sulfide reacts with acids and emits toxic and flammable hydrogen sulfide gas.

Sulfur dioxide gas is released during combustion.

Sodium sulfide nonahydrate can absorb carbon dioxide in the air to produce hydrogen sulfide.

APPLICATION

Used in the manufacture of sulfur dyes, leather depilatory, metal smelting, photography, rayon denitration, etc. Widely used in tanning, papermaking, mineral processing, dye production, organic intermediates, printing and dyeing, pharmaceuticals, monosodium glutamate, man-made fibers, special engineering plastics, polyphenylene sulfide, polyalkali rubber, and also used to make sodium hydrosulfide and sodium polysulfide , Sodium thiosulfate, etc., also have certain uses in the military industry.

1- It is used to produce sulfur dyes in the dye industry and is a raw material for sulfur blue and sulfur blue.

2- In the printing and dyeing industry, it is used as a dyeing aid for dissolving sulfur dyes.

3- In the tanning industry, it is used for hydrolysis to dehair the hides, and it is also used to prepare sodium polysulfide to accelerate the soaking of dry skins to help soften them.

4- The paper industry is used as a cooking agent for paper.

5- In the textile industry, it is used for the denitration of man-made fibers and the reduction of nitrates, as well as the mordant for dyeing cotton fabrics.

6- In the pharmaceutical industry, it is used to produce antipyretics such as phenacetin.

In addition, it is also used to make sodium thiosulfate, sodium hydrosulfide, sodium polysulfide and so on..

SECURITY INFORMATION

Health hazard

This product can decompose hydrogen sulfide in the gastrointestinal tract, and can cause hydrogen sulfide poisoning after oral administration. Corrosive to skin and eyes.

Environmental hazards

Hazardous to the environment.

Explosion hazard

This product is flammable, highly corrosive, irritating, and can cause burns to the human body.

Hazardous characteristics

Crystalline sodium sulfide is a strong alkaline corrosive product. Anhydrous sodium sulfide is a spontaneous combustion product. Crystalline sodium sulfide reacts with acids and emits toxic and flammable hydrogen sulfide gas. Slightly corrosive to most metals. When burning, it releases sulfur dioxide gas, and sodium sulfide powder can form an explosive mixture with air. Alkali sulfide is easily soluble in water, and its aqueous solution is strongly alkaline. It is extremely irritating and corrosive when it comes in contact with skin and mucous membranes. Sodium sulfide nonahydrate can absorb carbon dioxide in the air to produce hydrogen sulfide. It will react violently when exposed to acids and release a large amount of hydrogen sulfide gas. Inhalation will cause serious poisoning.

Fire fighting method

Hazardous characteristics: Anhydrous substances are spontaneously combustible, and their dust is easy to ignite spontaneously in the air. It decomposes in case of acid and emits highly toxic flammable gas. Powder and air can form an explosive mixture. Its aqueous solution is corrosive and strongly irritating. It starts to evaporate at 100°C, and the vapor can corrode the glass.

Hazardous combustion products: hydrogen sulfide, sulfur dioxide.

Extinguishing method: Use water, misty water and sand to extinguish the fire.

First-Aid

Skin contact: Take off contaminated clothing immediately and rinse with plenty of running water for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention.

Eye contact: Lift the eyelid immediately, and rinse thoroughly with plenty of running water or normal saline for at least 15 minutes. Seek medical attention.

Inhalation: quickly leave the scene to a place with fresh air. Keep the airway unobstructed. If breathing is difficult, give oxygen. If breathing stops, give artificial respiration immediately. Seek medical attention.

Ingestion: Rinse mouth with water, drink milk or egg white. Seek medical attention.
